This recipe uses the following spices:

Apple Cobbler Spice Cake

Ingredients:

For Spice cake:
¾ cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp. The Spice Hunter Pure Vanilla Extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. The Spice Hunter East/West Indies Ground Nutmeg or fresh ground 100% Organic Whole Nutmeg
1 tsp. The Spice Hunter Madagascar Ground Cloves or 100% Organic Ground Cloves
2 tsp. The Spice Hunter Highland Harvested Saigon Cinnamon or 100% Organic Ground Cinnamon
¼ tsp. salt

For Cobbler:
8 cups peeled and sliced firm, tart apples such as granny smith
1 cup brown sugar
1 pinch salt
1 tsp. The Spice Hunter Highland Harvested Saigon Cinnamon or 100% Organic Ground Cinnamon
1 tsp. The Spice Hunter East/West Indies Ground Nutmeg or fresh ground 100% Organic Whole Nutmeg
3 Tbsp. butter, diced
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup chopped walnuts

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 350°F
For Cobbler:
Grease a 12-inch dutch oven or a large, deep baking dish. Add the apples, sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, butter and flour. Mix well then sprinkle with walnuts. Set aside.

For Spice Cake:
In a large bowl or mixer, cream together butter and brown sugar. Mix in the egg, sour cream and vanilla. Sift the flour, baking soda, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon and salt together into a separate bowl. Add the dry ingredients to the shortening mixture and mix thoroughly. Spoon the cake batter over the apple topping then bake until cake is nicely browned and begins to pull from the sides of the pan (a toothpick can be inserted and should be able to be removed clean), about 40 minutes. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes then turn it out onto a large plate. Serve slices of cake warm or at room temperature. Try drizzled with hot caramel sauce, if desired.
