Holiday Poached Pears
1 cup water
½ granulated sugar
¼ cup The Spice Hunter Mulling Spices
4 pears, peeled and cored
In a saucepan bring water, sugar and mulling spices to a boil over medium-high heat. Carefully set fruit into liquid. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered 20-30 minutes or until fruit is tender and liquid is reduced to a thin syrup. Spoon fruit into serving dishes. Pour sauce through a strainer over fruit. Discard mulling spices. Garnish with whipped cream and nuts or serve with ice cream.
May substitute apples for pears.
