This recipe uses the following spices:

German Meatballs with Cabbage


1 egg
1 lb. sliced apples
2 Tbsp. grated onion
salt & pepper
1 tsp. The Spice Hunter Mediterranean Marjoram
1 cup sauerkraut, drained
1½ lbs. red cabbage chopped
½ cup chopped onion
1 cup chicken broth
2 Tbsp. red wine vinegar
4 strips bacon
½ tsp. The Spice Hunter Caraway Seeds
1 Tbsp. sugar
½ cup bread crumbs
½ lb. ground chuck


Beat egg. Add bread, meat, ¼ cup sauerkraut, ¾ cup finely chopped apple, onion, 1 tsp. salt and pepper, ½ tsp. marjoram. Mix and shape into meatballs. Dice bacon; sauté in Dutch oven. Remove meatballs. Combine remaining sauerkraut, sliced apples, marjoram, onion and remaining ingredients. Arrange meatballs on top, cover and cook on low, 30 minutes. Sprinkle with bacon, serve.
