This recipe uses the following spices:

Poppy Seed Red Cake

Ingredients:

½ cup The Spice Hunter Dutch Poppy Seeds
½ cup milk
1 cup butter
1½ cups sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food coloring
2½ cups cake flour
2 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 Tbsp. white vinegar
1 tsp. The Spice Hunter Pure Vanilla Extract

Preparation:

Bring poppy seeds and milk to boil. Remove, let stand 1 hour. Pour off milk. Bring all ingredients to room temperature. Cream butter and sugar, about 10 minutes. Beat in eggs and food coloring. Sift dry ingredients together. Alternately add buttermilk and dry ingredients to butter mixture. Add poppy mixture, vinegar and vanilla. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9 inch round cake pans. Bake in preheated 350°F oven for 30-35 min. If desired, top with your favorite vanilla frosting.
